Moxibustion (Moxa)
Warming and moving therapy with mugwort (Artemisia argyi)
What is moxa?
Moxa (艾 ài) refers to mugwort (Artemisia argyi) — a classic Chinese herb best known for its warming and moving qualities.
In Chinese medicine, mugwort is valued because it brings gentle heat deep into to body, helping to support circulation, vitality, and regulation.
Moxa is traditionally used in a therapy called moxibustion, where warmth of moxa is applied to specific areas or acupuncture points.
Why mugwort is so important in Chinese medicine
In Chinese medicine view, warmth is not only about comfort — it is about function.
Mugwort is traditionally used to support:
strengthening to body when energy feels low
especially when body tends to feel cold or depleted
supporting movement where there is tightness or stagnation
helping body recover when it has been weakened over time
This is why moxa has been used for centuries, not only in clinics, but also in home wellbeing traditions.
How it feels (moxibustion therapy)
Moxa warmth is usually described as:
deep, spreading warmth
soothing, penetrating heat (not sharp)
a comforting sense of "coming back to energy"
When applied correctly, it is a gentle and deeply supportive therapy.
Availability in studio
Moxibustion therapy involves burning moxa and therefore produces smoke.
Because to studio has a sensitive fire alarm system, moxibustion is currently not performed on-site.
However, moxa remains an important part of Chinese wellbeing traditions.
If it may be suitable for you, I can explain how it is traditionally used and offer guidance.
Mugwort (moxa) wellbeing products
Mugwort is not only used in clinic treatments. It has also been part of traditional home wellbeing practices for a long time.
In future, I will provide selected mugwort (moxa) wellness products for home use — designed to support daily wellbeing as part of a Chinese medicine approach.
